MANNIS, VIRGINIA ROSE PRICE Age 94, a resident of The Village at Cook Springs, Cook Springs, Alabama, died on June 17, 2011. She was born October 19, 1916 in Rogersville, Tennessee, to Samuel Harlin and Mattie Sue Stewart Price. She lived most of her life in the Fountain City/Smithwood area of Knoxville, Tennessee. She worked at H. S. Kresses for eight years in the late 30's and early 40's and was employed by Knox County Schools for 34 years, all at Shannondale Elementary School. She was a life long member of Smithwood Baptist Church and was in the Bethany Sunday School Class. She was a loving, compassionate mother, daughter, grandmother, and friend, loved by all for her keen sense of humor and contagious laugh. Her love of life was evidenced at family gatherings which always centered around large, delicious meals. She cheered wildly for Tennessee football until her nerves would get the best of her. She loved everyone unconditionally and was loved equally in return and will be missed by all who knew her. A special thank you to the staff of The Village at Cook Springs for giving her 4 1/2 years of loving care and to Family Comfort Hospice and Trinity Medical Center for helping her during her final days. We are grateful to everyone who touched her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Harlin Price and Mattie Sue Stewart Price, her husband, Joe W. Mannis, her daughter, Jannine Lusk, her brother, Stewart Price, and her grandson, David Mannis. She is survived by her children, Joe B. Mannis (Brenda) and Andy Jordan (Brice); son-in-law: Don Lusk; daughter-in-law, Carolyn H. Allen; grandchildren, Suzanne Mannis, Johnny Jordan (Laurie), Jake Jordan (Kandy), Sam Jordan (Shannon), Josh Lusk (Shana), Ben Lusk (Lisa); great-grandchildren, Emma Jordan, Juliana Jordan, Jacob Lusk, Alexis Lusk, John David Jordan, Jr., Owen Lusk, Dylan Lusk, Annabel Jordan, Beck Jordan; special nieces, Ann Fielding (Bobby), Judy Leatherwood (Tommy), Moyah Dalton (Freeman); wonderful friend, Elizabeth Allen "Sweet Pea"; and many other family members and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 11:30-1:30 at Stevens Mortuary, Knoxville, Tennessee. A 2:00PM graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery following the visitation . In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in her memory to Smithwood Baptist Church, 4914 Jacksboro Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918.
