BISHOP, SHERMAN SPENCER, 87, died peacefully at his home in Roebuck Springs Tuesday evening March 30, 2010. He left his earthly house which he built in 1948 for his eternal home - a home not built by hands. He is survived by his wife, Marie Weaver Bishop; his daughter Lisa Bishop Berry and her husband, Fred E. "Rusty" Berry, Jr.; his granddaughter Kathryn Marie "Katie Ree" Mc Combs and her husband, William A. "Drew" McCombs, Huntsville, Alabama. In addition, surviving him are sisters-in-law, Ovilee Bishop, Birmingham, Alice Bishop, Nashville and Tamara Bishop, Trussville; Jeanie Weaver Tucker and her husband Bennett D. Tucker, Sr., Gadsden and their children Dr. Bennett D. "Chip" Tucker Jr., Gadsden, Amanda Tucker Cabaniss, Pelham and Traci Tucker Dewar, Navarre, Florida and brother-in-law, H. B. "Red" Alford, Austin, Texas; several nephews and nieces and grand and great-grand nephews and nieces. He was a member of South Roebuck Baptist Church for over 50 years and was a life-time deacon of his church. Sherman was the son of Lee O. Bishop, Sr. and Thelma Bishop. Brothers Lee Bishop, Jr., Robert "Bobby" Bishop and Russell Bishop and his sister Louise Ferguson preceded him in death. During World War II, Sherman served in the United States Army, 12th Tank Destroyer Group. He will be remembered as a master craftsman and well known in the home building field. He was owner of Sherman Development Co. for many years. Pallbearers will be Fred E. Berry Jr., William A. McCombs, Bennett D. Tucker, Sr., Dr. Bennett D. Tucker, Jr., Chief Master Sgt. (Ret.) Charles Dewar and Christian D. Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers are Roy Anderson, Leonard Bass, Gene Campbell, Larry Camp, Robert Evans, Todd Gregory, Barry Sheffield and Oz West. Services will be held on Good Friday, April 2, 2010 at South Roebuck Baptist Church with visitation at 1:00 and the service at 2:00. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to South Roebuck Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama or to The Gideons International. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
