Olin Brooks

Olin Brooks, age 79, of Birmingham, AL passed away on March 16, 2011. He was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Cpl Olin Brooks USMC served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a Charter Member of the Chosen Few, a Fraternity of Brothers of the Korean War. He was given the Korean Freedom Medal of Honor in June, 2000 and the 2008 Marine of the Year Award. The Marine Corps League honored him in 2007 with an appreciation for his 11 years with 1,926 hours of service with the Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olin R. and Mary Brooks. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan Meyer Brooks; children: Bonnie Brooks Tate (Tom) of Oak Creek, WI, Olin Ray (Buddy) Brooks, III (Kathy), Gregory Allen Brooks, Gretchen Lee Brooks of Maysville, KY. Grandchildren: Raeanna Bolle (Jon), Jennifer Brooks, Melissa Brooks, Steven Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Ryder Brooks, Kelsey Brooks. Sisters; Ramona B. Reese (John) of Calhoun, GA, Martine B. Simpkins (Bill) of Hampton, VA. Brothers; Robert T. Brooks (Pat), Paul E. Brooks (Kay). Services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 2:00pm at Jefferson Memorial Chapel with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. The Rev.
