Julia Calhoun Richeson, a life-long resident of the Chalkville area, died peacefully Sunday the 20th of February with James, her devoted husband of 61 years, at her side. Julia was born on October 20, 1925 in Chalkville, Alabama, one of Floyd and Eula Calhoun's three children. She was a devout Christian and was privileged to have been baptized, married, and to have her life celebrated in the Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church. Julia was a lifelong faithful member and was active in Sunday school and various United Methodist Women activities. Following her graduation from high school she went to work as a payroll clerk with the Weir Kilby Corporation and retired as the general office manager after 37 years of loyal service. Julia was very active in her community, and was the treasurer of the Chalkville Civic Club for many years. She loved volunteering, Atlanta Braves baseball, and time with family and friends. She was an active member of the NAWCC since 1970, served as membership chairperson for its regional meetings, and her many contributions honored when she was named a Fellow in 2000. Julia is survived by her husband James Richeson of Chalkville; sister-in-law Ann Calhoun, nephew Paul Calhoun, and niece Beverly Calhoun of Birmingham; nephew Michael Calhoun of Schroon Lake, New York; brother-in-law John Richeson and his wife Ann of Russellville; nieces and nephews Debra and Victor Donovan of Springfield VA; Susan and Scott Newman of Oviedo, FL; and Mary and Edwin Jones of Huntsville, AL; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitation and funeral services will be Thursday, February 24, at Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until 11:30AM, followed by the funeral service. Internment and a graveside service will be held at 3:00PM at Cherry Hill Cemetery located at the intersection of County Road 244 and County Road 83 about 5 miles east of Russellville, AL. Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, 2501 Sweeney Hollow Road, Birmingham, AL 35215. >
