Joyce Hamrick

Joyce Cotney Mathews Hamrick, 79, of Trussville, peacefully passed July 7, 2013. She was a member of Irondale Methodist Church and later moved to First United Methodist Church of Trussville where she was a member of The Character Builders Sunday School Class. After her retirement from the Jefferson County Health Department she moved to Foley, AL where she was active with several garden clubs and worked with the community. She was an avid gardener and always had beautiful flowers throughout her yard. She also enjoyed playing the piano at family gatherings where she would play and her brother would sing. Much of her generosity went unknown to others. She is preceded in death by her parents Ozie and Viola Cotney, her brother, Donald Cotney, husband William Q. Hamrick, and her first husband Fred Mathews, the father of her three surviving children, Skip Mathews (Donna), Beth Park, Leanna Mathews along with five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Wren and Libby Cotney who was a sister she always longed for and a host of loving family, friends and neighbors. Although she may be out of presence her love will forever remain in our hearts. "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" Mother. We are so proud of you and what you brought to life.
