WRIGHT, J.C. Age 88, of Birmingham, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. A committed Christian, he was a faithful member of McElwain Baptist Church. Before joining McElwain, Mr. Wright was an active member of Hunter Street Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon. Other church activities included participation in the choir, Friend in Faith Sunday School class and involvement with the Loving Touch outreach ministry. Mr. Wright was born on January 6, 1923 in Cullman, Alabama, the 8th of 11 children. He spent his formative years in Holly Pond, Alabama. He enjoyed telling the story of how his 3rd grade teacher led him to the Lord at the age of 9. He graduated from Holly Pond High School in 1942. A Navy veteran, Mr. Wright served in the Pacific theatre for 35 months during WW II. He enjoyed participating in Navy Seabee Reunions throughout his life and was a past president of the Seabee 76th Construction Battalion. He worked as a machinist for Birmingham Transit Authority for 43 years and was also a barber for many years. He enjoyed traveling and visited the Holy Land, Mexico and Guam. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Alice Price Wright; daughter, Patsy Evans; grandson, Mark Brandon Carroll; sister, Gladys Nelson; sister-in-law, Jo Wright; brother-in-law, Johnny Pello, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Margie Bolding Wright; father David Columbus Wright; mother, Mattie Barnett Wright; brothers, William Elbert Wright, James Albert Wright, John Floyd Wright and William Dee Wright; and sisters, Annie Bell Wright Harrison, Ruby Wright Bryant, Julia Wright Merris, Florene Wright Morris and Pauline Wright Pello. Visitation will be held at McElwain Baptist Church on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. at the Church. Revered Jody Baker, Dr. Joby Triquett and Dr. Buddy Gray officiating. Graveside services will be held at New Hope Baptist Cemetery in Holly Pond, Alabama at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Loving Touch Ministry at McElwain Baptist Church. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
