Herman Stanley Willis, Sr., of Birmingham passed away Monday April 5, 2010 at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen Willis, a sister and four brothers. Herman served in the United States Air Force and was a long time employee of Hancock Fabrics, owner of Allred's Cloth Barn and The Upholstery Shop. He was a member of McElwain Baptist Church for 51 years and a former member of the City Salesmen's Club. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Myrna Thompson Willis; daughters Leigh Willis Turpin (Barry); Stacey Willis Knouse (Eric) all of Birmingham, and son Herman Stanley Willis, Jr., (April) of Palmyra, Pennsylvania; also left to cherish their "Poppa" are 6 grandchildren; Tyler Kelley Smith, Austin Willis Smith, Jackson Eric Knouse, Caroline Leigh Knouse, Bryant Stanley Willis and Ashton Begley Willis. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at McElwain Baptist Church. The funeral service also held at McElwain Baptist Church will be Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Joby Triquet and Jody Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Brookwood Medical Center, the Mountain Brook Fire and Police Department and the church families at McElwain Baptist Church and Meadow Brook Baptist Church.
