Edward "Earl" Brooks lovingly known as "Granddaddy" passed away at his residence in Pinson, AL on May 11, 2010 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years "Ruth McDowra Brooks" and son-in-law Vernon W. Herron Sr. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born April 6, 1918 to Simon Walker and Effie Virginia Roddam Brooks and was the last surviving of 11 siblings. He was a life long resident of Pinson, AL and a faithful member and Deacon of Valley East Baptist Church. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. and in the Navy during WW II. He was a well known master mechanic and practiced his trade for over 50 years. Not one to completely retire, he kept busy in his later years woodworking and making furniture for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Brooks was the patriarch and historian of his family. He spent many years pursing his great love of genealogy and researching his family history. Survivors include Jerry & (Anita) Brooks of Trussville, AL, Patricia & (Joe) Lacey of Pinson, AL, Dennis & (Donna) Brooks of Pinson, AL, and Susan Herron of Huntsville, AL. He had 11 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 5 to 7PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be on Friday at 2:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Pall Bearers will be grandsons, Scott Brooks, Jason Brooks, Kevin Brooks, Teague Smith, JR Herron, Alex Smith, and Randall Pelham. Granddaddy was a gentleman in every aspect of his life. He loved nothing more than Sunday afternoons on his back porch surrounded by his family and friends. He was respected by many and will be loved and missed by all.
