Doris Brakefield Piteo, preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Albert Piteo in 2002, parents Georgia Lee and David Elmer Brakefield, sisters Vera Hurst, Audrey Kyle, Lottie McCombs and Alma Brakefield. Survivors: sister Reta Shank, children Joseph (Janice) Piteo, Robert (Linda) Piteo, Michael (Beverly) Piteo, Barbara (Stanley) Boone, Sr., Mark (Cindy) Piteo, Frank (Donna) Piteo, John (Lynette) Piteo, 20 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. She was a member of Ladies Altar Sodality and sang alto in the church choir at St. Augustine, St. Edwards and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Churches. She played piano and organ by ear, she could hear a song once or twice, then play it entirely. She enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving the fruits of her hard labor. There was always something wonderful cooking in her kitchen and an extra place at the table for anyone that came by. Some of her greatest joys in life were family and having everyone around for cookouts and holidays. Visitation will be Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 5pm until 7pm, Rosary at 7pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church 334 Main St. Gardendale, AL 35071. Mass- Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11am at the church with graveside service following mass with no procession to Jefferson Memorial Gardens 1591 Gadsden Hwy Birmingham AL 35235. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
