Wylie R Cartee, age 94, was born December 21, 1919 and went to his Devine appointment Saturday, April 12, 2014. Mr. Cartee married to the love of his life, Sue, on December 16, 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941- 1945, and he was employed by Alabama Power Company for 41 years and 5 months. Wylie Cartee was a member and past Deacon at Ashville First Baptist Church. He was also a member of VFW, American Legion and Alabama Energizers. Mr. Cartee enjoyed gardening, raising cattle, and helping people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Alice Cartee; his wife, Sue Cartee; sisters, Iris Landers, Sarah Hester; and son-in-law, Stan Hopper. Survivors include his sisters, Ione Reed, Joann Lewis; son, Larry Cartee; daughters, Tennie (Robbie) Davis, Carmen Hopper; grandchildren, Amanda Vice (Jay), Chuck (Renee) Cartee, Jeremy (Laura) Cartee; great grandchildren, Chris Cartee, and Sam Vice. Visitation will be Monday, April 14 from 5-7:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. The service will be Tuesday at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel with Brother Dwight Gary officiating and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard rendering military services followed by the burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Meadows Assistant Living and Lawley Hospice of Rainbow City, AL.
