Wilmer Dickens "Dick" Webb Jr., 84 a long time resident of Birmingham, Ala died on July 18, 2012 after a brief illness. For the past 10 years, he enjoyed living on his farm in Locust Fork, Ala. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Dick Webb Sr. Survivors include his wife of 47 years Shirley Marsh Webb; his son, Kinn Webb and his wife Lynn and grandchildren, Lyndsey and Hunter; daughter Laura Webb Newman and husband Rob and grandchildren Webb and Annalaura; and daughter Cheri Webb Jordan and husband Mark and grandchildren McKee and Jade. He is also survived by his sisters, Patsy Webb Bailey and husband Jack, and Belle Webb Cheatham as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Dick will be missed by all that knew him. Dick was a successful businessman operating the family business, Dick Webb Insurance, since 1951. Enjoying the outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing golf were his passions. He also enjoyed attending and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Dick graduated from Ensley High School in 1946. He attended Auburn University on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 1951. While at Auburn, he played baseball for the Tigers and was a designated permanent team captain. He also played minor league baseball. He was a member of ATO, social fraternity and ODK honorary fraternity. While at Auburn he was selected into The Spades Honorary, which is the top ten Seniors on campus. He also served in the Army of Occupation in Japan in 1947. He is also survived by five of the remaining Spade brothers, Crawford Nevins, Milton Blount, Herman Blagg, Harry Knowles and Elwood Burkhart. Dick was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and his dear friend Dr. Belon O. Friday (Brother Bill) will be conducting the funeral service at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home; 1591 Gadsden Highway, Trussville, Alabama, Saturday, July 21. Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 pm with services to follow. Burial will be afterwards at Marsh Family Cemetery in Locust Fork, Al. The family requests memorials are made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice . >
