Wilma Cofield Carter

Passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at home with her family at the age of 78. She was born in Randolph County, AL on February 16, 1930, the daughter of Albert Grissom and Annie H. Cofield. She graduated from Woodland High School and went on to study elementary education and received the Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University. Later she returned to graduate school and received the Master of Elementary Education degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She loved children and dedicated her life and teaching to them. She began teaching at Oxford Elementary School, Oxford, AL. After moving to Birmingham, she joined the faculty at E.B. Erwin Elementary, where she taught 2nd grade for over 25 years. After retiring from Erwin Elementary, she returned to the classroom, teaching at Briarwood Christian School. She was a member of Huffman Baptist Church for 36 years where she was actively involved in its ministry through the Mary Bowie Sunday School Class. She worked with and especially cared for special needs young people during the 1980's. She loved being a part of the Happy Hearts choir and traveling with them during these most recent years. She loved most her family, her grandchildren, her Cofied family and her roots in Randolph county. She was preceded in death by her infant son, John Anthony Carter. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joe T Carter. Sr. a son, Joe T Carter, Jr, his wife Kay and their son, Andrew of Trussville, AL. a daughter, Nan Carter Bronnenberg, her husband Steve and their children, Emily and Jared of Dallas, TX. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Huffman Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 28, from 5 i�½"7 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville. Memorial gifts may be made to The Alabama Baptist Children's Home
