WOO, SR., WILLIAM H. William H. Woo, Sr., aged 92, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born October 18,1918 in Canton, China. He immigrated to America as a child at age six, where he was met by his grandfather in Seattle, Washington. It was sixty years before he went home again. He became a gifted chef and worked at Joy Young's in Birmingham before opening his own restaurant, Chop Suey Inn in Homewood. He was a World War II veteran having served in Occupied Japan. He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. How Jok Woo and his wife of fifty-five years, Mary Frances Barnes Woo. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Lopresti (Gayton) and his sons, William H. Woo, Jr. (Becky), Thomas W. Woo (Charlotte), and Paul S. Woo (Lynn), four granddaughters, Dianna Crawford (Tommy), Rachel Forrester (Rob), Hilary Woo, Amelia Woo, and five grandsons, Thomas Woo, Jeremy Woo, William Woo, Jordan Woo, and Blake Woo. His grandsons will serve as his pallbearers. He is also survived by two nieces, Alice Chow (Boch) and Elaine Wong and two nephews, Max and Steve Wong. He attended Deerfoot Baptist Church where he was a member. He also was a frequent visitor at Lakewood Baptist Church where he had many friends. Visitation will be Sunday from one until two with a chapel service following at Jefferson Memorial Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Deerfoot Baptist Cemetery, Dr. Wayne Scott officiating. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Amelia Woo (granddaughter) donation account at RBC Bank in Trussville at 115 North Chalkville Road, Trussville, AL 35173. We wish to thank the staff of Veteran's Hospital of Birmingham for their most professional and compassionate care of our father and our family.
