William Tate, Jr.

William Merriman Tate, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama died on January 1, 2024. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1944 to Beatrice S. Tate and William M. Tate, Sr.

As a child in Atlanta he began a lifelong love affair with airplanes, riding his bike to NAS Atlanta to watch planes take off and land. This led him to join the U.S. Navy in 1962 after graduating from Chamblee High School. He then studied Graphic Design at Georgia State University, met his wife Patricia during his time there, and graduated with a B.A. in 1970. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Stubbs Tate, sons William M. Tate III and James (Heather) Tate, grandchildren Jordan (Alexia) Tate, Logan Tate, Jake Tate, John Lewis Tate, Judah Tate, and Molly Kate Tate, great grandson Preston Tate.
