William Harold Pounds, age 89, of Huffman, AL passed away December 9, 2015. Mr. Pounds attended West End High School. He joined the US Marines during WWII. He was a paper boy, worked for Western Union delivering singing telegrams, worked for L&N Railroad, then joined the US Post Office and worked for 35 years until he retired in December 1981. He returned to work in May 1982 and worked for the Post Office Credit Union for 10 years then left and went to work for his son in law at Lanny's Hot Dogs for about 3 years and finally retired to home. He was a Deacon and lifelong member at Green Acres Baptist Church and Huffman Baptist Church in 1982. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Marie Potter Pounds; parents, brothers, sisters and daughter and son in law Sara Clements (Lanny). He is survived by daughter Diane Lairmore (Jack), grandchildren Alex Mullins (Ashley), Amanda Hawkins (Chris), Andrew Mullins, Heather Burton (James), Courtney Patterson (Brad), and Kyle Clements (Jesse), and 8 great grandchildren. Chapel services will be held on Saturday, Dec 12, at 3pm with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Reverend Larry Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 2pm until 3pm Saturday. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Cancer Society. We would like to thank Fairhaven Nursing Home staff and nurses for the wonderful attention and care he received while he was there. Also the Palliative Care Team at St Vincent's Birmingham, Hospice of St Vincent's East and most of all his doctor of 30 years Dr. John Davis for all his care, understanding, support and wisdom.
