William “Percy” Brown (91) was born on February 12, 1930, and passed away on December 5, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, David Milton Brown, and Mary Elizabeth Brown, and is survived by his wife, Melba Brown, who was a faithful and loving wife of 56 years! He had one son, Jeffrey S. Brown, and two daughters, Deborah F. Barker (Donald) and Gayla B. McCracken (Ron), and 7 grandchildren.
Percy was a sweet, simple, and gentle spirited man who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible. He also loved fishing, baseball and was an excellent gardener, known to grow and give away fresh vegetables to all of his friends and family. These are the things that gave him great pleasure!
When Percy was a young man, he served over two years as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany. He made several life-long friends during his time in the service and enjoyed meeting up with many of them annually for decades after he was discharged.
In 1953 he began his career working with American Cast Iron Pipe Company located in Birmingham and dedicated 36 years of his life working as an electrician. He was always proud of the time and friends that he made while employed with the company.
Once retired, he mainly focused on the things he truly enjoyed! His family, fishing, gardening, helping others, and watching and pulling for the Atlanta Braves baseball team!
He also enjoyed attending Palmerdale United Methodist Church, where he helped with the food pantry, was an usher and loved playing dominions with his Happy Hearts church group.
Percy was a great inspiration to many and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him!
In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to "Palmerdale United Methodist Church Food Pantry."
The funeral for William “Percy” Brown will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and the service presided by Tyler Cantrell will follow in the chapel.
