William Gilbert

William "Roy" Gilbert, age 95, of Birmingham, AL passed away February 20, 2016. Roy was born on February 11, 1921 in Petersburg, TN to the late James and Mary Ethel Freeman Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 68 years, Jayne Rittenberry Gilbert, who passed away on February 8, 2016; their two sons, Jerry Gilbert and Mike Gilbert; two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Thompson (Jim); daughter-in-law, Brenda Kruse; three grandchildren: Cody Gilbert, Breanna Garcia (Moi), Lauren Craft (Michael); five great grandchildren: Madison York, Noah and Ethan Garcia, William and Amelia Craft. Roy served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII. He retired from Rust Engineering in 1986 after a 37 year career. The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26th at Jefferson Memorial Chapel in Trussville with visitation held one hour prior. Burial will follow the chapel service at Jefferson Memorial's adjoining cemetery; Brother Andy Waits officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to your favorite charity.
