Vivian Kennington Smith

September 8, 1920 — October 18, 2021

Trussville, Alabama

Vivian Kennington Smith passed away peacefully on October 18, 2021 in her home.  Born in La Grange, Georgia on September 8, 1920, the fifth of ten children. She was the daughter of the late Rosa Lee and Joe Jefferies Kennington, and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Frank Thomas Smith.  Vivian graduated from Woodlawn High School.  Following high school and marriage, Vivian and Frank began a family. They were active in the Eastlake United Methodist Church where they were members while raising their four children. Vivian led such projects as Bible Study throughout many of those years. In 2012, she transferred her membership to Trussville Baptist Church where she enjoyed her Sunday school group (The Joy Class). Some of her greatest accomplishments and fondest relationships, aside from having raised four amazing children, were during the years she spent volunteering at then-called East End Memorial (now St. Vincent's East) for over twenty years.  Vivian touched and influenced many lives throughout her life, as she was involved in frequent walking groups at such places as Eastlake Mall, Brookwood, and most recently the Trussville Civic Center. Her great health enabled her to continue all her activities through the length of her life. Some of her lifelong hobbies included exercising, gardening, reading, sewing, shopping, maintaining the yard, and giving to various in-need organizations.  Vivian's legacy is proudly continued by her family: Jerry Smith (Nancy) of Auburn; Wayne Smith (Cheryl) of Nashville, TN; Pam Mason of Knoxville, TN; and David Smith (Christy) of Trussville, AL. She leaves six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  A private graveside service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery on October 20, 2021.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Trussville, AL or Big Oak Ranch, 250 Jake Mints Road, Gadsden, AL  35905.
