Virginia Hassell

February 3, 1939 — April 11, 2020

Virginia Lee Little Hassell passed away on April 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Manning Little of Shellhorn, Al and Katherine Lucille Floyd Little of Brundridge, AL and her sister, Mary Ann Little Bryant of Rome, Georgia. She is survived by her husband, John Roy Hassell; daughter, Jacqueline Hassell Lavier (Kyle), daughter, Cheree Hassell Miller (deceased) (Scott); grandchildren, Kayla Lavier and Jarred Lavier; great granddaughter, Kylie Grace; brother, Floyd Manning Little (Cathy) and sister, Cheryldean Lowery; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and special friends. Virginia graduated from Woodlawn High School. She was employed at the Union Oil Company as Administrative Secretary to Division Sales Manager; the Connors Steel Company as assistant to Manager in Sales Department; at the American Heart Association, State Office, as Administrative Assistant to the State Director; and while employed at UAB for 22 years she was Executive Assistant to the Hospital Administrator; Administrative Executive Assistant to the Hospital Administrator; Administrative Executive Assistant to Director of Human Resources; Executive Associate to Vice President of Administration and retired as Employment Recruiter in the Human Resources Department, UAB. Her community activities included Board members of the March of Dimes, Alabama Chapter and the State Office of the American Lung Association. She held positions in the Birmingham Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International and became the charter president of the Vulcan Chapter, Professional Secretaries International where she held numerous other positions after serving as President. Virginia was a member of the Huffman Baptist Church and the Nancy Smith Sunday School Class. Her love of God and family was a guiding force in her life. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 1 PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Rev. Larry Smith will be officiating over the services.
