Vann Mcelroy

Vann Buren McElroy, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Monday, March 25, 2013. Vann is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Johnson) McElroy, his son Jeffrey Vann and wife Rachel (Sedelmaier), and grandchildren Matthew Vann and Hannah Caitlin; his son Timothy Lee and wife Heather (Schreck), granddaughter Elliott Paige; his son Mark Patrick; his brother Lloyd McElroy and his wife Mary; his sister Betty Moore and her husband Huland; his sister Joann Jones and her husband Junior; and many treasured nieces and nephews. Born in Cullman, Alabama on July 1, 1938 to Elmer and Lovie (Alldredge) McElroy. Vann was an avid golfer, enthusiastic football and baseball fan, and retired pharmacist. After active duty in the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska, he earned his Pharmacy Degree at Samford University in Birmingham in 1969, and built a successful career at McElroy Drugs in Irondale, and K-Mart Pharmacies in Birmingham. Vann was a loved and respected Pharmacist to hundreds of customers, as well as a highly regarded friend and mentor to many co-workers. Vann is a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle to many, and will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. The visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 11am until 12:30 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, Alabama 35235. A private service for family will follow.
