Urban Johnson

Urban Ralph Johnson, age 85, of Birmingham passed away on November 14, 2019. He was a beloved husband and dad and member of Mountain Brook Community Church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Jean Panos Johnson and his son, Richard Johnson as well as his mother and father, Bessie Lee Prickett Johnson and Albert Henry Johnson and 8 siblings. He is survived by his daughters Christi Johnson Kallam (Tim) and Jill Johnson Crowe (Mike) and 1 brother, Blair Daniel Johnson. Urban leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Richard Tyler Johnson (Heather), Lindsay Kay Johnson Anderson (Nicholas), Benjamin James Kallam, Katie Lynn Kallam, Chase Turner Johnson, Rebekah Lauren Crowe and Abigail Christine Crowe. He is also blessed with 6 great grandchildren. Urban enlisted with the US Army in 1955 and attended basic training in Fort Jackson, SC. He completed morse code training in 1956, then served overseas in Japan for 18 months. After returning to the states, he spent the next 37 years as an active member of the Army Reserves, retiring in 1994 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 specializing in radio communication. Urban graduated from UAB and worked as a produce buyer for A&P and later Piggly Wiggly. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 11 am with a funeral service to follow at noon at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating is Reverend Tim Kallam. Burial will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.
