Tammie Richey

On Friday, March 12, 2021, Tammie Brown Richey, loving wife and mother of one, passed on at 62 years of age.

Tammie was born on March 30, 1958 in Clarksburg, WV to Tom and Barbara Brown. Tammie earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Montevallo and master’s from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She spent the majority of her career at Jefferson State Community College, working there for more than 30 years—first in institutional research and later on in information technology. On November 16, 1990, she married Mark Richey. Together, they raised a son.

Tammie loved to devote her time to helping the church. Before retiring from work, she coordinated Trussville’s Clearbranch United Methodist Church’s “resource room,” which housed essential crafts for the church’s children’s ministries. Later on, she assisted with various duties at Faith Lutheran Church in Clay, AL, her church home at the time of her passing. She had a passion for helping others and a penchant for organization, which she put to good use on an almost daily basis in her work, home, and church.

Tammie was well known for her pleasant demeanor, vibrant spirit, bright sense of humor, and willingness to always help those around her. Her light touched many during her brief stay on Earth.

Tammie was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara, and father, Tom. She is survived by her husband, Mark, their son, Luke, and her three siblings: Tom, Tim, and Terrie. She’s also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will take place for her family on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, with a 1 p.m. viewing. Flowers and other payments of respect can be sent to Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. The family will host a memorial celebrating Tammie’s life at Faith Lutheran Church at a later date not yet specified.
