Carra Sue Hardy Hale died March 22, 2018 at the age of 83. Born in Cherokee County, Al, to Lother and Lottie Hardy, she was an only child raised by her grandparents, Lee and Maggie Hardy. She had a large extended family of 13 aunts and uncles and 52 cousins. In 1950, Sue married Elbert Tracy Hale, also of Cherokee County. They celebrated 51 years together before Elbert died in 2002. In 1974, Sue and Elbert started Hale's Old Clock Shop which later became ET's Antiques. For over 40 years Sue and Elbert travelled the country together buying and selling antiques. The family home was also the location of the business where scores of antique dealers came and went over the years, some becoming close friends, others becoming like family. Sue's home, and in particular her kitchen, was always open to anyone who came over. Every day there was food simmering on the stove, coffee in the pot, cornbread in the oven and a cake on the table. No one left Sue's home hungry. While Elbert travelled, Sue often stayed home to run the business and raise their two children, Peggy and Becky. Sue was a dedicated mother who always put her children first. For many years she was a school volunteer, home room mother, and field trip chaperone. She never missed a band or choral concert, attended every PTA meeting, hosted birthday parties, pizza parties, sleep-overs, and youth group gatherings. In addition to being a hard worker and devoted mother, Sue was a doting grandmother whose greatest joy in life became taking care of her grandson, Christopher. Sue was a member of Center Point Independence Church for over 40 years, where she took personal responsibility for seeing that the congregation was over-fed at every church event. Sue was a Christian who loved her Lord and believed in the promise of everlasting life. She is now reunited with Elbert and her oldest daughter, Peggy, both of whom preceded her in death. Sue leaves behind her youngest daughter, Rebecca Hale Encizo, grandson Christopher Cook (Rachel), and two dear friends, Lorrie Rogers (Richard) and Bonnie O'Bannon and many cousins. We are sad that she is gone but rejoice that she is reunited with her loved ones and finally heard the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Visitation will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens from 3 pm-4pm with funeral following at 4 pm. Reverend Charles E. Baker and Ronnie Pollard will preside over services.
