Starling David Earwood, 65, passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 16, 2016, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. Mr. Earwood was born on May 22, 1951, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and the University of Montevallo. For 29 years he was a teacher, coach, and administrator in the Birmingham City, Jefferson County and Tarrant City school systems. He served as an assistant football coach at the University of West Alabama (formerly Livingston University). Following his career in education, he worked in the Birmingham Youth and Education division of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc. Mr. Earwood was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion at American Legion Post 113, Tarrant, Alabama. He was a dedicated Mississippi State football fan. He also enjoyed his monthly breakfast gatherings with longtime coaching buddies and more than anything he enjoyed his time being "Granddaddy". Mr. Earwood was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Starling Charles Earwood and Ervena Earwood, his brothers Charles Earwood and Michael (Mickey) Earwood and his father-in-law, James M. Buchanan. He is survived by his wife, Ann Buchanan Earwood; daughters, Deena Parrish (Jim), Opelika, AL and Leah Mizzell (Steven), Birmingham, AL; granddaughters, Blakely, Abby and Maggie Parrish of Opelika, AL; brothers, Dale Earwood (Shirley), Warrior, AL and Mitchell Earwood (Debra), Clay, AL; sister, Loretta Earwood, Amory, MS; mother-in-law, Lois Buchanan, Anniston, AL; sisters-in-law, Kay Kingsley (Greg), Katy, TX and Becky Byrne (Pat), Mobile, AL and a host of much loved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be on Wednesday at 10 AM at Jefferson Memorial and the burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Rev. Bobby Erwin will be officiating over the services. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
