Shirley Johnson

Mrs. Shirley Gail Johnson, age 66, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, August 29, 2011. Mrs. Johnson was born October 5, 1944 in Somerville, AL to the late Chessie Easter and James Lester Lipsey and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Moody, AL. She was a graduate of Priceville High School where she was the Salutatorian. She retired from HUD after many years of service for Red Stone Arsenal, the IRS, Social Security, and HUD. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Leo; her brother, Oliver Thomas; and sister, Melba Jean. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Ray; two daughters, Christina Rae (Brian) Sutton and Alicia Gail (Jeremy) Teague; "honorary son" , Jeffery Scott (Taffy) Perry; grandsons, Blake Edward Sutton, Brindon Tyler Sutton, Christopher Austin Waterhouse; granddaughter, Shelby Kaitlin Waterhouse and a brother, James Edward (Emily) Lipsey as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family will receive visitors at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Trussville on Wednesday, August 31 from 5 - 7PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1 at 10AM at the funeral home with graveside service to follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
