Sarah Clayton

Sarah Jo (Dewyer) Clayton of Pinson, AL passed away after a long illness on Thursday, September 15, 2015 at the TLC Nursing Center in Oneonta, AL. She was 83 years of age. Mrs. Clayton was born in Brookside Alabama and was raised in the Church of Christ. She attended Phillips High School and Birmingham Southern College. Immediately upon graduation she began work as an organic chemist at the Southern Research Institute on Birmingham's South Side and continued there until her retirement in 1995. Mrs. Clayton was active in the American Chemical Society and the Alabama Conservancy (Alabama Environmental Council). She was an avid bridge player and reader of mysteries. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Kevin Clayton of Chicago, her cousin, David Jones and his wife, Pam of Brookside, her long-time, best friend, Jeanette Thomas and friends Wynonna and Larry Quick and Janice Dunn who did so much to help in her last years, as well as many other friends. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joe Davis Clayton. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 11 AM to 12:30 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2 PM at Bivens Chapel in Brookside, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a preferred charity of choice. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
