Sam Whaley Cargo, age 89, of Birmingham, AL. formerly of Tarrant City, AL went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nannie Cargo, sisters Jackie Reed, Lois Best, and Nancy Burgin. During World War II, he served as a radio operator in the Navy. Upon returning, he went to work for Sears & Roebuck until his retirement in 1982. His passion was sharing the gospel. One way he did this was through the Gideon's International, where he distributed Bibles and shared about the Gideon's ministry as well as his personal faith in Jesus Christ. He is survived by daughter, Nancy Worthington (Al); son, Sam O. Cargo (Robyn); four grandchildren, Allison Gooch (Burton), Justin Worthington, Katie Cargo and Sam Cargo, two great grandchildren, Coleson and Maggie Gooch, and numerous extended family and loved ones. Services will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 12pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time.
