Ruby Virginia Wehunt Ryan passed away of natural causes on July 22,2010 at 9:30 a.m. in Fort Payne, AL She was traveling from Trussville to attend her younger sister's (Melborne Cline) funeral in Maryville, TN.Ruby was born in Hopewell, VA on September 13,1918, the second daughter of Wilborn and Julie Wehunt. She was preceded in death by sisters Ruth Rosser of Marietta, GA and Melborne Cline of Maryville, TN and brother, Harrison Wehunt of Bulverde, TX.
She grew up in Etowah, TN and met the love of her life, Harry D. Ryan. They were married in Chattanooga, TN and enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage. Harry passed away in 2002. For thirty years, Ruby served her country as a dedicated military wife to Harry as he served in the United States Air Force with tours in Alabama, New Mexico, Georgia, and Japan. Ruby also taught kindergarten and first grade.Throughout her life, Ruby loved to read and even at the age of 92, she was reading two novels per week. She loved her friends at the Trussville Senior Center, especially her bridge friends. She was a member of Trussville United Methodist Church.Ruby was an outstanding mother, grandmother, educator and friend. She is survived by her son, Patrick Ryan; daughter-in-law, Sandra Ryan and her grandson, Casey Ryan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held at Jefferson Memorial Trussville, July 25, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN on July 26, 2010 at 1:30PM Eastern Standard Time with the Reverend Mark Lacy officiating.
