Royce Monroe Bynum born Jan 26, 1918, passed away at home August 17, 2012, with his loving family at his side. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dot H. Bynum, Eugene Hudgins and Shirley Haynes, (Dot's brother and sister that were raised by them), his parents Odis and Lela Bynum, brothers Noval, Ronald, and Wayne Bynum. He is survived by his loving wife Irene Hartley Bynum, one sister Mary Jo Brown (Ray), Alexandria, AL, one sister-in-law Gloria Bynum of Decatur, AL, one stepson who became a son Roland T. Howell, Millbrook, AL, a nephew Ken Bynum who is the man he is today because of Royce's guidance, and Ted Hudgins, another one of Dot's brothers raised by them. Royce was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church; a member of Birmala Masonic Lodge #836 for 62 years, serving as Worshipful Master 2 years, and treasurer for 50 years; a member of Sadie Deer Chapter #350 Order of the Eastern Star. He was an active and dedicated member of each. He was a World War II Veteran- a radio operator on a B-17 bomber in the Army Air Force, completing 50 combat missions, and took an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in August of 2009. Royce was loved by all who knew him. He was truly a servant of the Lord all his life, lending a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He led an exemplary life to his family and friends and was a good influence on so many of them. The family would like to thank all who ministered to them, and CareFirst Hospice for their help and excellent care of Royce. Chapel services will be held on Monday, Aug 20, at 2pm in the Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm Sunday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care First Hospice, Hilldale Baptist Church, or Birmala Masonic Lodge. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
