Rowland Wolf

d. August 20, 2015

There is a hole in our hearts, for the light of our lives has departed. A remarkable woman, Rowland Wolf, has left this life to join her loved ones in eternity. This world is a better place because of her presence and diminished by her absence.

A warm and gentle lady, Rowland was a New Yorker by birth but came to be a southern girl at heart. Known for her beautiful smile and her musical laugh, she met and married her high school sweetheart, William M. Wolf (1943-2011) in Atlanta, Georgia. For over 50 years, they enjoyed an adventurous life of exploring and traveling. They lived in many different areas of the United States before settling in their beloved home in Jemison, Alabama.

Rowland devoted her life to her family. She and Bill raised three children, Darby Wolf Nichols (Randy) of Trussville, Alabama, Reynolds Scott Wolf (Erin) of Atlanta, Georgia and Kendal Wolf Waller (Ray) of Jemison, Alabama. Rowland was an enthusiastic grandmother of eight wonderful grandchildren, who adored her (their "MoMo") and gave her great joy. Additionally, Rowland leaves behind a sister, Daryl Reynolds Brinkley of Atlanta, Georgia, two brothers, Craig B. Reynolds (Jo) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Bardell M. Reynolds (Cindy) of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Friends and family alike will grieve her loss.

Rowland once described herself as a homemaker and farmer, but she was so much more. She loved the written word, a story well-told, and a wide variety of music. She was an accomplished equestrian, but the thrill of competition was overshadowed by her love of all animals. She gave shelter to the homeless and fixed the broken. She gave strength to the weak. She freely loved the unloved, neglected and abused animals that, to their good fortune, crossed her path.

Following her diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer in 2013, Rowland was blessed to receive wonderful care and treatment directed by Dr. Carla I. Falkson and the amazing staff of doctors and nurses associated with UAB hematology and oncology and UAB hospital. Also assisting as her remarkable life came to a close were Dr. Falkson's colleague, Dr. Gabrielle Rocque, and Rowland's long-time trusted physician, Dr. Larry Mikul, his staff and the wonderful nurses of Southern Care Hospice Services. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The UAB Breast Cancer Fund by using the web-link: www.uab.edu/give/breastcancer or by mail: c/o Christian Smith, Major Gifts Officer, UAB Department of Medicine, 1808 7th Ave S, BDB 463, Birmingham, AL 35294-0012.

Visitation with the family and a service celebrating the beautiful life of Rowland Wolf will be held at the family's home, Journey's End Farm in Jemison, Alabama at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2015.
