Ronnie L. G. Cooper

August 13, 1942 — October 8, 2024

Ronnie L.G. Cooper, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on August 13, 1942, Ronnie lived a life shaped by hard work, dedication to his family, and a quiet, steadfast faith in the Lord.

Though Ronnie rarely spoke about his faith, it was a central part of his life. He lived with integrity, guided by his beliefs, and made sure his family knew how important his relationship with God was. His actions, wisdom, and support for his loved ones reflected these values, even if he didn't always express them in words.

Ronnie served his country with pride as a member of the U.S. Air Force, a commitment that spoke to his strong sense of duty and responsibility.

After starting his trucking career with Pony Express, Ronnie went on to own and drive for R&J Delivery. He took pride in his work, and his dedication to his job was clear. Known for his no-nonsense approach to life, Ronnie often gave straightforward advice, tempered with a dry wit. Though he could be sarcastic at times, his guidance and life lessons were always appreciated by those who sought them.

Ronnie had a passion for NASCAR racing and was a strong supporter of his grandson, Jim Mardis, who raced Modified cars. While he didn't attend the races in person, he always kept up with Jim's career, cheering him on from home.

Reading was one of Ronnie's greatest joys, and he found solace in a good book. It was often a challenge to find gifts for him, as he didn't ask for much, but books were always a perfect choice, keeping his mind sharp and giving him enjoyment.

In his later years, Ronnie spent his time watching college football, reading the newspaper, and being with his wife, Joyce Z, and the rest of his family. Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes, and his presence will be missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Zann Cooper; his children, Teresa (Pete) Mardis, Gina Hammonds, Chad (Jennifer) Cooper, Angela McNair, and Sam (Janine) McNair; his grandchildren: Jim Mardis, Kasey Mardis, Donya Hammonds, Krystal Hammonds, Ashley Jenkins, Alex Roberts, Alexandra Courtney, Courtney Pate, Abigail Cooper, Nicholas McNair, and Scarlett McNair; along with 15 great-grandchildren who brought him joy. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Cooper; his parents, Grace and L.G. Cooper; and his brother, Danny Cooper.

Ronnie's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his wisdom, his no-nonsense attitude, and his quiet but steady faith. He will be remembered for his unique approach to life and the strength of character he demonstrated throughout it. Ronnie will be missed by all who knew him.

Rest in peace, Ronnie. You will always be in our hearts.
