Ronald Stephen (Steve) Roberts, age 69, lost his courageous fight with an extended stressful illness and passed away on Easter morning, Sunday, March 27,2016. Steve's stone of suffering was rolled away, and he was delivered into God's eternal life and reborn into a glorious peace.
He was bom on July 16,1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, son of James Donald Roberts and Mildred Ouida Ray Roberts. He graduated from Winfield High School. After serving with the military, Mr. Roberts graduated from the University of Alabama, receiving a bachelor's degree, and subsequently, a law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the United States Air Force for four years, serving in Central Office Operations, 29150, as a Command Center Specialist. He ended his service to our country at the rank of sergeant, earning an honorable discharge.
Following his service, Mr. Roberts worked for the Social Security Administration at the Southeastern Program Service Center located in Birmingham, Alabama for thirty five years. He was promoted through numerous progressively responsible positions and ended his career serving as a Systems Management Information Specialist. With his kind compassionate demeanor and effective leadership, he made many treasured and lasting friendships and professional relationships.
Mr. Roberts was blessed with his wife of thirty years, Nanette, one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his father, Don Roberts, and his mother, Ouida Roberts.
Survivors are his wife, Nanette of Vestavia, Alabama, one son, Derek Roberts of Vestavia, Alabama, one daughter, Candace Charping of Savannah, Georgia, and his brother, David Roberts (wife Gloria) of Houston, Texas. He had five grandchildren:
Allie, Joshua, Hannah and Zachary Roberts of Savannah, Georgia, and Kiersten Charping of Savannah, Georgia. Additionally, Mr. Roberts had two nephews, Roger Roberts and Brian Roberts, both of Houston, Texas.
A fabulous husband and father with a gentle soul will be sorely missed. His family expresses sincere gratitude for his loving care by the staff at St. Vincent's Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Additionally, the family is forever indebted to the exemplary and seemingly endless compassionate care provided by Dr. Noah Fitzpatrick and Dr. Joanna Siegel of Southview Medical Group and Scott Money, RN/MSN, of St. Vincent's Home Health.
Nanette is eternally grateful for the endless love and support from her son, Derek Roberts and her daughter, Candy Charping, RN. Nothing could have replaced their concern, hospital and home assistance, and emotional support.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31,2016, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Trussville, Alabama. Memorial services will be held following visitation, with burial in the Gardens.
