Ronald L. Green Sr., age 89, of Birmingham, passed away January 21, 2009. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Green served in World War II in the US Army Air Force as a glider pilot in the European Theatre of operations. His last mission was the Rhine Crossing into Germany in 1945, for which he was awarded the Air Medal. Mr. Green subsequently served 24 years in the Army Air Forces and the US Air Force. Beginning with the Korean Conflict and including Air Crew Instructor Duty. He flew for many years on relief and humanitarian missions to Berlin, the Belgian Congo, and the Antarctic as a member of the USAF Military Air Transport System. Services will be Friday Jan. 23, at 2pm in the Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens Trussville. Visitation will be from 1 until 2pm Friday. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Della Green, children Ronald Green Jr., Bruce Green, Jane Atkinson, Mary Dunion, Linda Brent, sister Gwen Noland, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity connected with Alzheimer's research.
