Roger Charles Hunter was born in Owens Crossroads, Alabama, to Emmett and Gracie Hunter on June 3, 1950 and passed away December 20, 2024 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elizabeth and Tommie Jean, and his son, Matthew. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna, daughter, Crystin Burton (Josh), and grandchildren, Emily, Elijah, and John Michael Burton. He is also survived by his brother, Carl Hunter (Judy).
Having the gift of being able to repair or build just about anything, Roger worked in the Facilities Department of Mountain Brook City Schools for thirty-eight years. He and Donna served as foster parents for more than fifty children in the Alabama Foster Care System, eventually adopting Matthew and Crystin. He was also interested in community affairs and served as mayor of his community at Highland Lake, Alabama.
Roger was a benevolent, generous, and selfless man, always helping someone. He was a nature enthusiast and loved the sport of hunting and fishing. He loved making people smile and always had family and friends laughing at social gatherings. He will be so missed by family and friends alike. There will never be another one like Roger.
Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. A chapel service will be on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with Walter Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL.
