Snow, Robert Morgan (Bob) age 87 passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27. Bob was born to William Henry and Ethel Morgan Snow in Pittsfield, MA. He grew up in Pittsfield and began his military career in 1945 while still in school, enlisting in the Massachusetts State Guard. Upon graduation from Pittsfield High School in 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army. He left active service as a Chief Warrant Officer after 23 years, retiring at Ft. Polk, LA in 1969. His awards and decorations include: WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan and Germany), Korean Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal during the Korean conflict and again during the Vietnam War.
He received a BS degree from Livingston State College, and a MS degree from Alabama Christian College, School of Religion. After retiring from the Army, he taught English and History at the local high school in DeRidder, LA until returning to Alabama where he worked for the Social Security Administration, again retiring in 1993.
Bob was an Amateur Radio Operator (KB4SYG) and a member of the Birmingham Amateur Radio Club for over 29 years. A long time member, and past president of The Men's Club at Independent Presbyterian Church, Bob always treasured his association with that group. He also worked many years as an AARP Tax Aide Volunteer at Avondale Library. He attended Huffman Baptist Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife and constant companion Susan; two sons, Robert Terry Snow of New Orleans, LA and Jeffrey DeRieux (Jenny) of Moody, AL; two daughters, Karen Mutchie (Les) of Syracuse, UT and Lynn Graves (Jeffrey) of Trussville, AL. He also leaves four grandsons, Joshua Caddell (Ashley), Jimmy Snow, Timothy Snow, Nicholas DeRieux (Corrien); four granddaughters, Casey Caddell, Jeanette Seals (Jake), Heather Young (Chad), Holly Lolley (Drew); five great grandsons and five great granddaughters. Survivors also include sisters, Ethel Reed of Vacaville, CA, Julia Chiplock, Watervliet, NY and brothers Kenneth, Middleboro, MA and Frank, Stillwater, NY.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Trussville with services beginning at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Huffman Baptist Church or a favorite charity in memory of Bob.
