Robert Smith

Robert Joseph Smith (Bob) of Hoover passed away on February 5, 2017. Born in Goodwater, Bob grew up in Birmingham where he graduated from Woodlawn High School. He attended Florida State University and played football as a linebacker. Bob was well known for his work in the concrete block business. After working for many years for Grasselli Concrete Company and later with Block USA, he retired in 2014. He was an active member of the Birmingham Association of Homebuilders for a number of years. He loved golf, football, and spending time with his family and pets. He was also an active member of Hunter Street Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Smith Williams, father Russell James Smith, and sisters Thelma Boyette and Audrey Smith. Robert is survived by his wife Helen of 53 years, daughter Hollye Jackson (Curtis), brother Jim Smith (Ruiko), and sister Fay Johnson. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:00 on Wednesday, February 8 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the American Heart Association in his memory.
