Robert Gafford

Robert C. "GG" Gafford, age 93 of Birmingham, AL passed away on November 13, 2012. He was of the Baptist faith. Bob, as he was known by his friends, was a Mason and a past Master of the North Birmingham Masonic Lodge 591. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force and a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served for 16 years in the Alabama House of Representatives, where he used his wit and communication skills to become a key participant in an arena typically dominated by attorneys. He is preceded in death by his parents Grover and Ludie, and his brothers G.C., Bill Joe, Harry and John, and his sister Jimmie Mae Stone, and by his wife Frances Wanninger Gafford. He is survived by his son, Robert D. Gafford; sisters, Ethel Jackson, Ludie Hughes, and Patsy Harden; his brother Larry Gafford; grandchildren, Tracie Owens and Todd Gafford; great grandchildren, Scott, Nicole, and Emily Owens and Amanda Gafford and Troy Barajas Gafford; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be sorely missed by all. The sadness of his passing is for our loss of his great presence with us here, but we all know he is rejoicing in the company of the Lord and joined with those that have gone before him. Services will be on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 12:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be an hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
