Riley Yager

Riley “Rip” Edward Yager 88 of Huffman passed away Tuesday, February 16 after battling Dementia for several years. Born September 3,1933 in Pratt City to Joseph Riley Yager and Annie May Hartgraves. Survived by wife of 65 years, Shirley Ashdown Yager, married December 19, 1954. While serving in the US Navy during the Korean War. Survived by his children Matthew Stephen (Judy), (3 children and 4 grandchildren), Susan Jo “Angel”, (2 children and 1 grandchild), Jeffrey Andrew, (4 children and 11 grandchildren), and Jason Daniel (Misty) (7 children and 7 grandchildren). Preceded in death by eldest son Michael Riley (2 children and 6 grandchildren and passed away on March 22, 2004. Attended UAB School of Engineering and retired from Rust Engineering after 35 years of employment. (What about Raytheon?) A quiet, gentle man who loved his family, his work, golfing. His favorite celebrities were Bear Bryant and John Wayne. In his golden years he enjoyed feeding the squirrels in his backyard, especially when he was joined by one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren. He will be missed. Many thanks to the staff of North Hill Nursing and Rehab. Funeral service is February 22,2022, 2:00 with visitation starting at 1:00, family at 12:30 with no graveside service.
