Richard Paul Gavin Sr., age 90, of Trussville, passed away June 22, 2011. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea. During WWII, he was stationed in the Pacific and also the European Theaters and was in the second wave on D-Day. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and 2 Purple Hearts. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. He was preceded in death by his wife Marion Gavin and son Richard Gavin Jr. Graveside services will be on Saturday June 25, at 11am with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. He is survived by his daughters Carolyn Platts, Paula Mitchell, adopted sons Bill Gavin and Davis Gavin, sister Jean Weaver, 10 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
