Rena Valentine

Rena E. Valentine, age 95, passed from this life on December 10, 2016. She was born in Ludington, MI, graduating from Ludington High School with honors, and was in the choir. She married Paul Valentine on September 15, 1951, and settled in Hammond, IN where they lived for 40 years. Then she moved to Birmingham, AL to live with her daughter in 2002. She was a faithful member of the church of Christ, devoted to the Lord, and her family. She enjoyed life. Her smile and hearty laugh will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Valentine; brother, Gordon French; and sisters, Gertrude Norris, Lucille Luscombe, Lillian Petersen, Lila Coleman, and Ruby French; as well as her son-in-law, Noal Sanders, Jr. (husband of Alice Sanders); and special friend, Norma Thatcher. She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Murrell (Steven) of Birmingham, AL and Alice Sanders of Waldron, AR; six grandchildren, Jeremy Murrell (Dixiana), Jared Murrell (Joy), John Murrell, Amber Murrell, Tracy Ratliff (Charles), and Larry Sanders (Lesli); ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm with the funeral service to follow at 2pm on Monday December 19 at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville. The service will be officiated by Lloyd Barker. A graveside service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Shererville, IN. The family would like to thank sitters from Family Private Care and Comfort Care Hospice.
