The funeral service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville on Monday, July 2, at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Ken Daniel of First Baptist Church of Chalkville officiating. Visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service in the Chapel. Mr. Shutt was born on November 29, 1929, to Fred and Fern Shutt of Mullens, West Virginia. He lived in West Virginia until he joined the U.S. Marines, where he served as a radio operator at the Inch’on Landing during the Korean War and was a purple heart recipient. He also was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp band and marched in President Eisenhower’s inaugural celebration. Mr. Shutt later joined the U.S. Air Force, where he traveled to countries such as Libya, Turkey, Afghanistan, France, and Japan. He continued to work into his 80’s in post-retirement positions at Lowes and Sam’s Club. Mr. Shutt (a/k/a Connie, Reggie, Dad, Daddy, Granddaddy and Gaddy) loved Jesus, his family, his country, tinkering on projects, being a Masonic member, and watching Alabama football. In recent years, he served his beloved wife with excellence as her caretaker through her journey with Alzheimer’s disease. His sacrificial devotion and love for her was evident. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Kelly Shutt, his brother, Fred Shutt, Jr., sister, Peggy Hill and son-in-law, Jeff Brown.
