Randall Lowe

d. May 18, 2015

Mr. Randall Gene Lowe aka "Captain", 59, passed away at his home on Monday, May 18, 2015 after a 13 year struggle with congestive heart failure, diabetes, glaucoma and a litany of medical issues. Randy was born on May 6, 1956 at Stabler Infirmary in Greenville, AL and helped his father at the family furniture store in Luverne, AL until he reached 17 and moved to Montgomery. Randy worked for Hall brothers Dairy/Barber's Pure Milk for over 20 years until Barber's was purchased by Dean Foods. While working for Barber's, Randy also owned and managed his own car lot and enjoyed his friendship with other Montgomery car dealers. After retiring from Barber's, Randy was operations manager of Montgomery Auto Auction until he became disabled from his 1st heart attack in 2002. He and his wife, Deb moved to Birmingham in 2003. They moved to the loft district downtown to Wooten Lofts in Birmingham on May 25, 2011, their wedding anniversary. Randy was known to many as the "Captain" - wearing his captain's hat each day - which he jokingly said was the only good thing left from a boat he and Deb once owned. Randy assisted his close friend, Bill Wooten, with the building and enjoyed their daily conversations and jokes they would tell each other. Randy travelled throughout downtown and Southside in his wheelchair each day. He never met a stranger and enjoyed his conversations and friendship with all. He touched many lives with his gentle soul. He never gave up and lived each day to the fullest while enduring the litany of health issues. He loved Alabama football and going to the beach. Predeceasing Randy are his father, Gene Talmadge Lowe and several aunts and uncles. Surviving are his mother, Edna Ruth Lowe; sister, Debbie Fincannon and her husband, Mike and their 2 children; son, Leslie and his 2 children; daughter, Elizabeth and her 2 children; sister-in-law, Pamela Cunningham; and several other relatives throughout Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas. Also surviving are close and dear friends, Bill Wooten, CJ Rubin, Mrs. Dorothy Cullen, Ms. Laura Lovell (Clip Joint), Julius Wright (Wright's Automotive), Ms. Vernette Wright (whom he visited almost daily either before or after he visited with Laura), the staff at Rogue Tavern (Bobby, Jazz and Karen and many more!), Paramount, Trattoria, Little Donkey, John's City Diner, Urban Standard, Sol's, Ted's, Magic City Grill, the Birmingham Police Dept. and so many more friends to mention. Finally, surviving is his wife and best friend for 29 years (married 19 years), Deborah Cunningham-Lowe and their 2 Highlander Lynx cats, Dakota and Zeus. Randy adored his "boys". Deb would like to sincerely thank Randy's doctors: Dr. Angela Dominque, Dr. Walter Dunn, Dr. Joe Teague, Dr. John Owen, Dr. Alfred Stanley, Jeff Herald CRPT, Dr. Hugh McElderry, Dr. Jeffrey Hawkins, Dr. Rick Lyerly, Dr. Matthew Sapp, Dr. Hamp Greene and each doctor's staff along with the staff at Brookwood Hospital, Comfort Care and Birmingham Fire and Rescue. On Wednesday, May 20, 10AM visitation for family and close friends, 11AM service with burial following at 12:00 Noon will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, AL with his former pastor, Rev.
