Ralph Lamar Payne, Sr. passed away Friday, July 17, 2015 at the William F. Green Alabama State Veterans Home. Mr. Payne was a life-long resident of Birmingham and a graduate of Woodlawn High School. Mr. Payne enlisted in the U. S. Navy at age 17 and was a veteran of World War II. He worked with various electrical supply distributors in the Birmingham area and served in several capacities ranging from warehouse manager to inside sales. He enjoyed woodworking and devoted much of his leisure time after retirement to various woodworking projects. He and Max were residents of Town Village in Vestavia for four years and established many friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, a brother, Louie Ernest Payne, Jr. and his loyal dog, Max. He is survived by daughters Dianne Stokes (Wendell) of Loxley, Alabama - Susan Hamer of Cordova, Alabama - a son, Ralph Lamer Payne, Jr. of Cordova, Alabama - a stepdaughter, Carolyn Curry (Pat) of Vestavia, Alabama, a stepson, Michael Barnett (Linda) of Vestavia, Alabama, brothers - Earl Payne of Lighthouse Point, Florida - Tommy Payne of Montgomery, Alabama and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at Jefferson Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow the visitation. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
