Ralph Taylor Gurley, born April 17, 1923, passed away on March 24, 2012. He was born in Munford in Talledega County and later attended Ensley High School. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and served from 1937 - 1941. He served in the United States Army in WWII from 1943-1945 in Normandy, France, Belgium, and Germany. Mr. Gurley worked for the United States Steel Fairfield from 1945 - 1966. He joined the staff of the United Steelworkers of America Union in 1966 and retired as Sub District Director of the United Steelworkers of America in 1987. He was a member of Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the VFW Owens-Cumberland Post. Mr. Gurley is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gurley; daughters, Judy Gay Gurley-McDonald, Sherry Pugh (Alan) and Cindy Lawrence (Jerry); grandchildren, Edward Wolf (Jessica), Brad Pugh, Bryan Pugh, Melanie Lawrence and Taylor Lawrence; as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00PM in the chapel at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
