Paulyne Millberry Smith was born on September 4, 1920 at home in Walker County, Alabama to Steven Rosswell Harris and Ionie Anderson Harris. She attended Curry High School. She married Joe Smith and they moved to Birmingham. Unfortunately, Joe passed away at a young age. She married Floyd Lionel Smith in 1962 and they remained married until his death in 2001.
Paulyne was always referred to by family and friends as Polly. She was loved by many and always lent a hand to help others. She was definitely a caregiver. She was devoted to her husband and took excellent care of him in their home before his passing in 2001.
Polly loved playing golf and was a member of Cumberland Lake Country Club for many years. Unfortunately, in her late seventies, she suffered a mild stroke which affected her balance and she had to give up the game she loved.
For the last several years, Polly was a resident of Diversicare Nursing Home where she received love and excellent care. Polly was basically non-verbal the last couple of years, but always had a smile on her face.
Polly is survived by her nieces, Suzanne Armstrong Brown and Debbie Howell Amado; and her nephew, Sonny Armstrong. She is also survived by her step daughter, Zoe Smith Glass, and granddaughters, Terissa Glass Mendum and Selena Glass DeGiovanni; stepson, Lionel Smith, and grandson, Adam Smith.
Polly will be buried beside her beloved husband Floyd at Hopewell Baptist Cemetery on April 3. They worshipped together at Hopewell Baptist for many years.
