Osburne Holt, of Birmingham, Alabama, was born on May 22, 1927, in Lynn, Alabama to William C. and Nora Dodd Holt, and died on July 13, 2015 at the age of 88 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Sheila Gammage; his brothers, Autry Holt, Bernard Holt, Jack Holt and Don Holt; his sisters, Charline Billingsley and Dorothy Bobo.

He is survived by his loving spouse of 65 years, Marjorie; his daughters, Rachel (Ken) Cushing and Patty Gammage; his grandchildren, Christy Gammage, Erin C. (Travis) Grant and Jennifer C. (Chandler) Bares; and his great-grandchildren, Audrey Gammage, Brooklyn Grant and Savannah Grant; one sister, Judy H. Barnett; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Holt faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. Upon discharge, he moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he attended Howard College for two years. During his time in Birmingham he met the love of his life, Marjorie Setliff, whom he married on September 2, 1949. They moved to Florence, Alabama, where he enrolled at Florence State Teachers College and graduated with a BS degree in accounting in December of 1950.

Upon graduation, he went to work for Alabama By-Products Corporation where he was a plant accountant for 34 years. When Drummond Coal Company purchased ABC, he was offered early retirement and a few months later went to work as staff accountant at Avis Rent-A-Car here in Birmingham where he worked until 2004.

Mr. Holt will be remembered for his love of the Lord and all the things spiritual, including daily Bible study, his love for his family and friends, his hospitality, and his love for music and leading his brethren in singing praises to God during worship services.

The family gives a special thanks to his long-time sitter, Bettye Goldsby, for her faithful and loving care and also to the nurses and staff at Greenbriar at the Altamont where he resided for almost seven years. The family also gives a special thank you to New Beacon Hospice, especially Josie and Terry, for their loving care, compassion and support over the past two years.

A funeral service will be at 12 noon on Thursday, July 16th at Jefferson Memorial Chapel. Burial will immediately follow the chapel service. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Jefferson Memorial in Trussville is directing.
