Opal Vines, age 90, passed away on May 14, 2014. Opal, "Nana," grew up in Morgan County, AL where she enjoyed the love of her close-knit family and growing up on a farm. After moving to Birmingham, she met and married her husband, raised two daughters, and later worked as a dental hygienist. She was a long time member of Huffman Baptist Church. Nana will always be known for her quick wit, sharp mind, contagious joy, and spunk. She loved traveling, playing bridge, gardening, and watching Braves baseball, but above all, Nana loved spending time with her family. Memories with her granddaughtersa�"playing dominos, fishing at the lake, and teaching them to knita�"were some of her favorites. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Jack David Vines; daughter, Julie Vines; sister, Jean Griffin, and parents, George and Berta Eaton. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Gwen Williams; son-in-law, Jim Williams; granddaughters, Molly Williams, Maggie Williams, and Emily Gray (Noah); brother, Bill Eaton (Aliene), as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 2:00 pm at Huffman Baptist Church (700 Huffman Road) with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services from 12:00-2:00 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Huffman Baptist Church.
