Mr. Oliver Glenn "Pete" Parker, 91 years old, was welcomed into Paradise and embraced by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 15, 2014, where he was reunited with his loving wife, Dovie Murphy Parker, and their eldest son, Michael. Pete Parker was born and raised in Birmingham. The youngest of 10 siblings, he attended Jefferson County High School while working various jobs (RC Cola, the ice block company, etc.), along with farming with his family. He proudly served America in the Pacific as a veteran of WWII from 1942-1946. He rose to the rank of Staff Sargeant before being honorably discharged. Upon his return to Alabama, he married the former Dovie Murphy. Married for 49 years, they raised five children. Pete was employed by Alabama-By-Products in Tarrant City where he worked until retiring. He and Dovie were world travelers, covering all 50 American States, Canada and Australia. He was a lover of music and avid reader with his favorite book being the Bible-traits he taught to his children. Pete and his family originally were members of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and then transferred membership to Boyles Baptist Church in Tarrant where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon for over 45 years. During his final years, he was a member of Springdale Baptist Church. Pete was a devout Christian who never tired of sharing his faith and leading others to Christ. Pete Parker was a loving father, who is survived by four children and their spouses: Joyce Parker Terry (Reed), Lynn Parker Welsh (Doug), Ray Parker, and Carol Parker Russell (Keith). His precious grandchildren are: Adam (Josie), Jason (Emily Ruth), Scott (Pamela), Jessica and Jacob Terry; Kristopher Birdyshaw (Haley), Parker (Meagan) Welsh and Dylan (Abbey) Welsh, Kristen Wesley (Jared) and Nicole Russell; great grandchildren: Olivia Birdyshaw, Kaden Welsh, Evan Terry, Emma Kate Terry, and Elyn Terry.
