O.D. Allen

age 94, went home to be with the Lord on October 7, 2013, at his home with his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He is the son of the late Robert and Virginia Allen. He was born on June 12, 1919 in Arab, AL. He was drafted into the Army Infantry at Fort McCellan, AL in WWII on November 26, 1942 and served as a Corporal in Service Company 411th Infantry as a clerk typist at Camp Howze, Texas. He married Mabel Evelyn Tucker on May 26, 1945. He worked with the U.S. Postal Service and retired with 30 years of service as a Schemes Examiner in Birmingham, AL where he helped with developing the Birmingham Zip Code. He was a long time member of Ruhama Baptist Church and later joined Irondale Baptist. O.D is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Allen; 4 children, Ronnie (Carolyn), Gayle Hubbard (Dan), Neal (Debbie), and Jenean Green (Terry); along with 10 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 2pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with visitation at 1pm. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
