Norman Troy Holmes of Palmerdale, AL, age 85, went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Glenn McDonald Holmes; his parents, Oscar and Myrtle Holmes; four brothers, Alva, Durward, Laster and Clyde Holmes; and grandson, Daniel Gillison. He is survived by one sister, Josie Huddleston ; two brothers, Ed and Wendell Holmes; seven children ,Jan (Tom) Holley of Apopka FL, Karen Holmes of Palmerdale, Sandy (George) Lancaster of Trussville, Terry (Danny) Gillison of Grayson Valley, Norman (Leigh Ann) Holmes of Birmingham, Dr. Mark Holmes of Odenville, Ricky (Hollie) Holmes of Pinson. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren: Kim (Brent) Soper, Kerri (Ted) Dewett, Matt (Dena) Holley, Blake (Jessica) Lancaster, Ryan (Kara) Lancaster, Seth Lancaster, Kandel (Jeff) Bridges, Stephen Holmes, Stephanie Holmes, Rachel Holmes, Haley Holmes, Andrew Holmes, Troy Holmes, Heather Holmes, Amy Holmes, and Anna Holmes. He also had ten great grandchildren, Kaylan Soper, Hannah Soper, Olivia Soper, Jared Soper, Lydia Holley, Lindy Holley, Alexis Lancaster, Abby Claire Bridges, Kamryn Dewett, and Taylor Dewett. Norman Troy Holmes attended the University of Alabama from 1946 to 1947 and was a member of the Alabama basketball team. He served in the Navy in WWII as Seaman First-class Gunner. He worked as a master carpenter with Birmingham Local #127 for over forty years. He was a devoted Christian, loving husband and father who lived his life caring for his family and others. Visitation will be at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville on Tuesday, October 6 beginning at 12:00 PM with Chapel services starting at 2:00 PM with Rev. Richard Statham officiating. Burial will follow in Lee's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Remlap. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
